The armoring around the joints contains a special material called prehardened steel which is extremely strong yet lightweight at the same time. This material contains more carbon in it than the standard steel does.
Titanium is a naturally occurring element, and it has widely varied corrosion resistance, many industrial uses, and applications, and is a popular investment metal. This alloy contains about 0.4% V impurities, making it stronger. This material is stronger than steel and not as malleable as Aluminum or Copper.
How Does the Iron Man Suit Work?
3D printers are not only for making toys and jewelry for kids. They are also being used to create high-tech medical devices, robots, and unprecedented engineering projects. As far as the boot jet propulsion system goes, 3D printing a jet prop is pretty difficult. It will be hard to find a jet prop lightweight enough for a lifesize Iron Man suit yet strong enough to withstand the pressure from the air it will have to push against.

3D printing has enabled designers to create beautiful sculptures and figurines for years. But it wasn’t until recently that we saw the rise in 3D printed prosthetics. Engineers and designers have benefited greatly from 3D printers dedicated to prototyping.

The MK6 is a 3D-printed suit designed by Unlimited Lab’s Richard van As. They employed Selective Laser Sintering, which uses a laser to heat the powdered metal, binding it together and solidifying it.
The designers estimated that printing each piece for the entire suit would take about 10 hours. But they were able to print the entire suit in less than three hours. The final product is amazing, considering they could print it all in one shot.
Unlimited Lab’s Richart van As and Julian Moya designed this MK7 suit to look like it from a single piece of metal. They used Selective Laser Sintering technology to print out all the parts for the suit. You can assemble and paint the pieces with polyurethane paints.
The process sounds a little more involved than the MK6, but it looks amazing. This 3D model for the MK7 comes in Autodesk Fusion 360. With an estimated build time of four hours, this suit is impressive at any size.
The MK45 is another amazing 3D-printed Iron Man suit. This time, our designers used Selective Laser Sintering to create the smooth lines of the suit. They had to put in a lot of detail in the shoulders and chest area because they had a limited amount of space to work with.
At approximately 10 hours to print, this model isn’t as fast as the MK6 or MK7, but it still looks amazing once completed. And it’s still got all the functionality. It is an exoskeleton body of the movie-quality iron man costume with a functional figure.
- Hulkbuster (Buster)
The Tetherless World Constellation was a challenge aimed to encourage innovation. It could benefit humans living in space. This version of the model uses Selective Laser Sintering.
With air and nitrogen-powered hydraulics system. The model has a fully articulated mechanical exoskeleton with 3D-printed pieces. Minimizing interior space for the air and nitrogen storage compartments proved difficult.
